Traditional Tet of Ho Chi Minh City
Since its first time taken place in 2004, Nguyen Hue Flower Street and Tet Cake Festival, organized by Saigontourist Holding Company and some other related departments under the instruction of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, has met the demand of the Saigonese for a meaningful, eventful and traditional Tet of the nation. This year is the ninth consecutive year of this special event. Year by year, the event has always been upgraded and diversified to make it more professional and monumental to mark the approach of a new year for not only the local people but also the foreign tourists.
Main activities:
“Heading to Saigon to see the lights”, that is the popular words of the Saigonese for every time they want to go out in the evening since 2007, when the street lighting has become a part of the Tet festival programs. Before and during the Tet festival, some main streets in the downtown are decorated with flowers and lighted colorfully. This year, every local people as well as the foreign tourists will see a number of different kinds of flowers. Besides, LED lights are attached to make it interesting and lovely. Looking at the decoration from a far distance, a picture of a flying dragon is approaching. Differently, on Nguyen Hue street, people could see four green gates symbolizing our green planet and the six continents we are living on. A completely various style of decoration is designed for Le Duan Street. White and Blue led lights are used to create a picture of the galaxy. Specifically, at the roundabout of Le Duan and Pham Ngoc Thach Street, a big ball surrounded by blue Led lights, pictures of people holding hands together as well as a couple of pigeons reminds us of a peaceful earth we need to protect.

- Street Lighting: light decoration on 4 main streets of the city: Dong Khoi, Le Loi, Nguyen Hue and Le Duan, from Dec 26th 2011 to Feb 3rd 2012.
- New Year Countdown – Music Show:
- New Year’s Eve: from 09:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight Dec 31st 2011 on Nguyen Hue Street.
- Lunar New Year’s Eve: from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight Jan 22nd 2012 on Le Duan Street. - Fireworks: 12:00 midnight Dec 31st 2011 and 12:00 midnight Jan 22nd 2012.
- Tet cake making Contest: from Jan 16th 2012 to Jan 10th 2012 in all districts of the city.
10.0000 Tet cakes will be given to charity on Jan 20th 2012 at Dam Sen Cultural Park. - Nguyen Hue Flower Street: themed as “Vietnam – My homeland”, from 7 p.m Jan 20th 2012 till 10 p.m Jan 26th 2012.
